The Economists’ Approach to Globalization, and the Significance of Consumerism: The Turkish Case

Abstract
Globalization continues to process despite its economic and social crises. Scholars also continue to study on
globalization. However, it is not understood truly. Especially economists see globalization as a one-sided
phenomenon. So the social substance cannot be perceived profoundly. The concept of consumerism implies a
culture and an ideology as a plank of globalization (global capitalism), and it enables economists to develop an
interdisciplinary view and to understand multidimensionality of globalization.
