Abstract
In the recent decades the human activities on the Mediterranean coast have caused a degradation of marine
ecosystems and terrestrial ecosystems nearby and have accelerated this process. This is mainly due to the
expansion of urban areas, coupled with other problems such as erosion, eutrophication, maritime transport and
the exploitation of the fishery resources. This article presents an analysis of the current situation and proposes
suggestions of what should be prioritized by the environmental programs in order to prevent the loss of the
natural capital.
