Environmental Sustainability and Economic Development in China and the United States: Past, Present and Future

Abstract
The economy of the United States that consolidated its centrality during the First World War, in these last
decades it's threatened by China’s performance. After centuries of stagnation, The Chinese economy has
accelerated the pace at the beginning of the new century, even surpassing the United States in 2015. The
economic policies of all states, even the most civilized, until a few years ago had only one objective that was to
make available to it’s citizens an increasing amount of goods and looked only at economic growth. While it is
only in the last few years, that the same leaders realized the need to include in their agendas also the protection
of the environment and to look not only at the economic growth, but also at the development.
