Abstract
The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the associations between socio-demographic characteristics of
international tourists and their travel characteristics, the sources of information which they use and to examine
whether there are differences between international tourists' satisfaction levels based on their sociodemographics
in Luang Prabang province, Northern Lao PDR. The data collection was undertaken by using a
self-administered questionnaire survey, with a total of 400 respondents. The findings indicated that international
tourists’ socio-demographic characteristics do influence their travel characteristics; the sources of information
more often used by tourists were also ranked as the most important sources; and there are statistically significant
differences between tourist satisfaction levels based on their socio-demographic characteristics. The research
outcomes are useful for decision makers to develop more effective strategies for sustainable development of
tourism in Luang Prabang.
