Strategy of Oil Contract Negotiation

Abstract
Contract negotiation is a key feature of petroleum business transactions between governments and oil companies.
Negotiation is not a simple process of giving and taking, it involves various steps and complexities. At each step
in the value chain, variety of contracts has to negotiate and bring to closure. This paper identifies the chain of
negotiation steps and explores the significant areas on which governments should focus on during the negotiation
process. It also highlights the key provisions and clauses which are commonly used in oil contracts. It provides
valuable information regarding the negotiation of oil contracts for governments in transactions with oil
companies.
