Abstract
As paragons of development East Asian economies have challenged international academia and policymaking. This paper aims at probing two theoretical strands applied to East Asian development, i.e. state-centric and network theories. Despite these theories’ overt merits, their explanatory power can be improved by incorporating politics and culture in a novel framework.
